On May 8, 2019, the Kick-off Meeting of International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing (ICIM) was held in Beijing Xiyuan Hotel successfully. More than 130 delegates of 85 organizations, from 16 countries, including Belgium, China, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the US, attended this meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Li Peigen (President of CMES, Member of CAE). Prof. Huai Jinpeng (Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Secretary of CAST), and Prof. Zhou Ji (Chairman of the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies; Honorary President of CMES; Member of CAE) were present.

Prof. Huai Jinpeng stated in his address that, ICIM should be an open platform that plays a strong supporting role in the interconnection and cooperation of various countries in the frontier areas. He hopes that the founding members can make full use of the platform's advantages and fully communicate, to achieve win-win benefits.
Prof. Huai Jinpeng said that ICIM should meet the internationally accepted rules, standards and best practices, and carry out extensive technical exchanges with rich and varied forms, and to promote project cooperation among more countries and enterprises in the field of intelligent manufacturing. The Coalition should encourage more countries and enterprises to participate deeply in the process of building a principle of common consultation and collaboration with shared benefits, so as to make the best use of their strengths and benefit all parties. The Coalition should also deepen pragmatic cooperation so that all parties can join hands to cope with the challenges of sustainable industrial and social development and institutional innovation, and achieve mutual benefit, win-win and common development.

Prof. Said Jahanmir (President of ASME) made a video address and congratulated the convening of the ICIM Kick-off Meeting. He introduced that ASME is committed to science and technology in mechanical engineering and related fields, and encourages fundamental research. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of Manufacturing Division of ASME. ASME wishes to strengthen cooperation and communication with each member in ICIM, and jointly promote the development of global intelligent manufacturing.
At the meeting, Mr. Wu Youhua (Executive Vice Secretary-General of the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies) delivered work report of ICIM. He introduced the character, vision, mission and current temporary organizing structure of ICIM. He pointed out that ICIM is a non-government and non-profit international organization comprised of scientific and technological associations, companies, and research institutions. ICIM actively promotes intelligent manufacturing in various countries and regions around the world. It is built on voluntary, equal and mutually beneficial basis. He said after one year of coordination and planning, the ICIM will carry out a series of work soon. It is hoped that the ICIM will become a platform for the industry and will make contributions to intelligent manufacturing industry of the world.

Dr. Huang Pei (Deputy Director of Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute of the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies) introduced the work plan of ICIM in 2019-2020, and chaired the discussion. He introduced the upcoming international meetings, online expo and related research work on international intelligent manufacturing in details, which will be held by ICIM. He also stressed that, in order to promote and contribute to the development of intelligent manufacturing, we need to do more investigation and exchange among countries and regions, and accelerate the talents training for the fields that are short of intelligent manufacturing manpower.
Dr. Huang Pei introduced the work plan of ICIM in 2019-2020 and chaired the discussion.
During the discussion section, delegates discussed the work direction and work content of ICIM. Many of them expressed concerns on the services to the small and medium sized enterprises, typical and practical case demonstration, and talent training, etc., for promote intelligent manufacturing. It was agreed that ICIM needs to expand international exchange and strengthen international cooperation in the field of intelligent manufacturing.

At last, Prof. Zhou Ji (Chairman of the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies; Honorary President of CMES; Member of CAE) made the closing remark. He said that intelligent manufacturing is the main driving force of the new round of industrial revolution. The establishment of the Coalition and its activities will certainly contribute to the promotion of a wider range of international exchanges in intelligent manufacturing, help to increase cross-border, cross-disciplinary and cross-industry cooperation, and is bound to play an important role in the global economy and technology map.

The successful convening of the kick-off meeting indicates the start of the activities of ICIM. The support and participation of various sectors are highly welcomed.
